Battery Disposal

In connection with the sale of batteries and rechargeable batteries, we are obliged as a distributor to inform you of the following. This information is based on the Batterierecht-Durchführungsgesetz (BattDG), the German battery law in force since 18 August 2025, which replaced the earlier Batteriegesetz.

Waste batteries do not belong in household waste

Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries and rechargeable batteries so that proper recovery is ensured.

You can return waste batteries free of charge: at a municipal collection point, in retail wherever batteries of the same type are sold, or with us. The take-back does not depend on whether you bought the battery from us.

Batteries in our equipment

We trade mainly in racking systems and storage technology. Batteries and rechargeable batteries occur in our range where they are permanently built into a device — above all in used industrial trucks such as forklifts, pallet trucks and low-lift trucks, usually as a traction battery.

If you would like to return a traction battery or a device with a built-in battery, please speak to us beforehand. Traction batteries are heavy, contain acid or lithium, and must neither be transported unpackaged nor removed by non-specialists. We will agree with you how the take-back can be carried out safely.

What the symbols on batteries mean

Batteries and rechargeable batteries carry the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin. It means that the battery must not be placed in household waste.

Below this symbol, batteries containing pollutants additionally bear a chemical abbreviation for the substance concerned:

  • Pb — the battery contains lead. Traction batteries in industrial trucks are frequently lead-acid batteries.
  • Cd — the battery contains cadmium.
  • Hg — the battery contains mercury.

Why separate collection matters

Waste batteries contain raw materials such as lead, nickel, cobalt and lithium that can be reused. If they are collected separately, these materials return to the cycle instead of being lost. At the same time, batteries contain substances that cause harm in household waste: they can leak, contaminate soil and water, and start fires in collection vehicles or sorting plants. With lithium batteries, this fire risk is the most common cause of damage in waste treatment facilities.

You can also help to reduce the amount of waste batteries arising: a traction battery lasts longer if it is charged and maintained properly — full charging cycles, no permanent deep discharging, regular checks of the electrolyte level on lead-acid batteries. Batteries that are no longer fit for their original purpose can often still be reconditioned or used further in less demanding applications.
